We received 144 cans Playdoh from my former college professor/student teaching advisor through his donation at donorschoose.org. Now we have playdoh to last us all school year! Thank you so much Dr. Charles and family!
Today we got to make turtle artwork with the Power family! We used professional paint and drawing pencils to add detail to our beautiful honus :)
Once a month, our students get the opportunity to learn about taking care of our aina (land) garden! Last week, we planted types of flowers that would attract some butterflies :) Thank you to our parent volunteers for your help!
Mr. Pearce (5th grade teacher whose classroom is right by ours) and I decided to do a "Big buddies, Little buddies" program this school year where one student from his class (Big Buddy) will be paired up with someone from my class (Little Buddy). We thought that this would be a great way to teach responsibility and friendliness, and just create bonds of friendship. Every Wednesday, his class will come over to our class and do fun activities with their Little Buddies. Today was our first day of the program, and it went by WAY better than we ever expected! Both classes absolutely LOVED it! The Big Buddies came and read a book to their Little Buddies and got to hang out with them. I thought that some of my little ones would be shy, but I was wrong! By the end of the session, the Little Buddies did not want their Big Buddies to go back to class! They thought it was so cool to have a big kid as a friend :) When the dismissal bell rang, the Big Buddies even stopped by our class to say by to their Little Buddies! I'm so glad that we decided to do this, and I know that this will create friendships that our kindergarteners will never forget.
We love literacy stations! There are 8 different stations:
1. iPad station 2. Sensory station 3. Handwriting station 4. Emergent reader station 5. Playdoh station 6. Rainbow writing station 7. Dot it station 8. Stamp station. We are put into groups of 2-3 and do two of these stations a day (We do stations 4x a week, so by the end of the week, they should have gone through all the stations). During the language arts block, we have a mini lesson at the carpet, and then go to our first literacy station for 12 minutes. After that, we have another mini lesson on the carpet, and then rotate to our second station. Lastly, we come back to the carpet to review everything that we learned. Literacy stations are great because it allows the students to work independently at their stations while I work with small guided reading groups. |
