Mr. Pearce (5th grade teacher whose classroom is right by ours) and I decided to do a "Big buddies, Little buddies" program this school year where one student from his class (Big Buddy) will be paired up with someone from my class (Little Buddy). We thought that this would be a great way to teach responsibility and friendliness, and just create bonds of friendship. Every Wednesday, his class will come over to our class and do fun activities with their Little Buddies. Today was our first day of the program, and it went by WAY better than we ever expected! Both classes absolutely LOVED it! The Big Buddies came and read a book to their Little Buddies and got to hang out with them. I thought that some of my little ones would be shy, but I was wrong! By the end of the session, the Little Buddies did not want their Big Buddies to go back to class! They thought it was so cool to have a big kid as a friend :) When the dismissal bell rang, the Big Buddies even stopped by our class to say by to their Little Buddies! I'm so glad that we decided to do this, and I know that this will create friendships that our kindergarteners will never forget.
