Our students had such a fun time at their first Turkey Trot! We played Pilgrims and Turkeys (aka Sharks and Minnows), had a potato sack race, hid inside a parachute, used our listening skills in "Simon Says" and last but definitely not least---had the Turkey Trot! They chased those human turkeys all around the field!
Our students had the amazing opportunity to paint our school's mural with professional painter, Hilton Alves! They each got to help paint a bubble and I must say, they did a wonderful job!

Last week, I stayed at school til about 4 pm and realized that our custodian was still on campus cleaning classrooms. He spends 20-30 mins cleaning our classroom VERY thoroughly and has to clean not only the classrooms near us but the bathrooms as well. One day I was talking with him while he was cleaning our classroom and found out that he works 2 custodial jobs SEVEN days a week---some days he has to work both jobs! So I thought that it would be a great idea for our students to write thank you cards for him to show our appreciation for all his hard work into making our classroom clean and beautiful. Our students gained a better understanding of the importance of cleaning our classroom and putting our supplies/toys before we leave to go home. When I gave our custodian (we call him Mr. Mac) our thank you cards, he had the biggest smile on his face! Thank you Mr. Mac!
Last week was our first Halloween at Sunset Beach Elementary! We started the crazy (extremely crazy), fun-filled day with our annual school parade (rain or shine!) We had so many cute and spooky costumes---from bumblebees to Peter Pan to skeletons to mermaids. After our parade, we got down to business and started our academic day with Halloween journal writing, Halloween math, and even a little Halloween dance (ask your child to sing "Monster Mash hehe). After lunch, we played "Hot Pumpkin" instead of "Hot Potato". Our highlight of the day was probably our tour the spooky haunted office. We had such a fun time screaming and getting scared by the spooky skeletons and spiderwebs (I have to admit, I screamed too!) I wish I videotaped our tour because I'm sure that you would get a good laugh from our reactions. I'm bummed that I didn't get the opportunity to take pictures of the students, but I'm glad parents were able to capture the moment for me and send me some pictures! Thank you so much!
