In science, we've been learning about states of matter. We learned how to make gas (air) using a liquid (vinegar) and a solid (baking soda) to blow up a balloon! When we did it the first time, the balloon blew up to the size of an orange. Next, we changed our formula and added more baking soda and hypothesized that the balloon would be bigger than the first try---and it did! Lastly, we added more baking soda and more vinegar and hypothesized that the balloon would be bigger than the first and second balloon---and we were right! The balloon got to the size of a small melon!

For the past two weeks, we have been learning about dental health and how to keep our teeth healthy clean. For our science experiment today, we watched the effects that sugar has on plaque (yeast). We saw the cup that had sugar in it grow with lots of plaque. We wrote down our observations and came up with ways on how to keep our teeth from getting plaque. Here is what we said:
This week we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday by participating in Read Across America on Wednesday. We did a directed drawing of The Cat in the Hat. Look how great it turned out!
PS: Please make sure to wear pajamas to school on Wednesday. Bring your favorite stuffed animal or pillow to school too! Literacy:

Science: Dental Health How can we keep our teeth healthy? Today we were able to sing with Uncle Jack! He taught us how sounds from the guitar can represent different feelings like happy and sad. We were even able to compose our first song about waking up in the morning and going to school! Thanks Uncle Jack!
In art with Mrs. Johnson, we learned about primary colors! We also learned how to blend two primary colors, like red and blue, to make a secondary color (purple). Our art really makes our classroom very colorful!

Science: States of Matter: Solids, liquids, and gases Solids keep their shape, while liquids change into the shape of their container. We had a blast at our Valentine's Day party! We passed out our Valentines, ate yummy treats, and showed our appreciation for each other! Thank you families for bringing Valentines treats and food for our party :)
