Every morning, we start the first 10-15 mins of the day working in our wonder journal. When we first walk in the door, there is a new "wonder" on the board. We draw a picture in our journal and think of different things to "wonder" about the animal. After we are done, we watch a quick video about the animal on National Geographic and discuss what we learned about that animal/wonder. We enjoy learning interesting facts of about our "wonders" each day. We love letting our imagination run wild and coming up with all these different questions we have about our "wonder". Here are some of the wonders students had for the eagle:
We need your help to get our classroom a color printer to bring color to our kindergarten world! We've created a request on a charity website called Donorschoose.org We're writing to ask for any donations possible for my students - no matter the size (seriously, every little bit counts). This week only (until August 28),any donation you make to our project will be matched by Donorschoose! (For example, if you donate $10, Donorschoose will donate $10 too!) Here’s our classroom request: http://www.donorschoose.org/missramos To have your donation matched dollar for dollar, enter the promo code SPARK on the payment screen. IMPORTANT: The SPARK promo code will only double your donation for the next 7 days. Thank you for your support! Love, Ms. Ramos and her 16 kindergarten friends Literacy:

*Chapter 1 Math Test on Friday* Last week, this week, and next week we are introducing ourselves to all the letters of the alphabet. At the end of the month, we will be moving from our 3 rotations focusing on a letter a day to 10 literacy stations focusing on a letter a week. These three weeks are strictly an introduction to letters. Hehe sounds confusing but I'll explain it more in depth when we get close. Once we get into our curriculum, we will have one letter, one sight word, a word family (example: AT family=cat, hat, mat), and vocabulary for the week :)

At the end of the day we get to do one of our favorite things----centers! This is a great time to learn social skills, use our imagination, and build friendships :) We have 9 different centers:
This week, we learned the routines for our literacy and math rotations. Each day we go through 3 math stations (red, blue, and green table) before 1st recess and 3 literacy stations after recess. We do each station for 10 mins and switch in between. Since it is the beginning of the year, our rotations are centered around improving our fine motor skills :) Once we get our routine down, our rotations will be based on our letter/sight word of the week and our math concept of the day.
Here are some pictures from our first day of school :) We had a great time getting to know each other. We took a tour of the school, learned the routines of our classroom, ate lunch today, and before we knew it---it was time to go! I can't wait to learn and grow this year with my 16 new friends!
