This week, we're working on the AT family. We made an AT tree by putting apple letters on the tree that made real words, and apple letters off the tree that made nonsense words. We also write AT family words on our whiteboards and sing an AT family song/dance.

In science, we learned all about germs and how they are gross! Ms. Ramos put different color paint in our hands, some of us had red, some had blue, and some had green. Then we SHOOK HANDS. After we shook hands with five of our friends, we stamped our hands onto the poster. After we washed our hands, Ms. Ramos told us that the GREEN paint was the "germs" and we noticed that ALL of our handprints had green on them (even though some of us never had green paint squirted in our hands, we got the green paint from someone who we shook hands with). We learned that germs travel the same way!
I took pictures of my kinders writing their names at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year, we're going to "retake" this picture and see how much we improved!
PS: They did an AWESOME job writing their names super big so that it could fit and fill the board! I was impressed! Mr. G (5th grade teacher whose classroom is right by ours) and I decided to do a "Big buddies, Little buddies" program this school year where one student from his class (Big Buddy) will be paired up with someone from my class (Little Buddy). We thought that this would be a great way to teach responsibility and friendliness, and just create bonds of friendship. Every Wednesday, his class will come over to our class and do fun activities with their Little Buddies. Last Wednesday was our second session of the program. Mr. G and I told the Big Buddies to help the Lil Buddies with their homework binder flashcards/books and it went WAY better than we ever expected! Both classes absolutely LOVED it! We saw Big Buddies trying to teach the Little Buddies there letters using the folder paper, singing them the alphabet song, writing the letters for them on the board---we were so impressed! I thought that some of my little ones would be shy, but I was wrong! By the end of the session, the Little Buddies did not want their Big Buddies to go back to class! They thought it was so cool to have a big kid as a friend :) When the dismissal bell rang, the Big Buddies even stopped by our class to say by to their Little Buddies! I'm so glad that we decided to do this, and I know that this will create friendships that our kindergarteners will never forget.
