I am a STRONG believer in play in early childhood. Play allows students to practice their communication and negotiating skills, exercise their creativity and imagination, and allows them to experience other points of view. It also lets them work together to problem solve conflicts about space, materials, or rules positively. Through play, students are able to express and cope with feelings and work on their fine and gross motor skills. At the end of each day, we have 30-45 minutes of center time. Here are some of our centers: BLOCK CENTER, LEGO CENTER, IPAD CENTER, LINCOLN LOG CENTER, ART CENTER, DRAMATIC PLAY CENTER, PLAYDOH CENTER, and PUZZLE CENTER.
I believe kindergarten should be a social year filled with play that promotes learning!
