Today we celebrated the Chinese New Year! We learned that this celebration is for 15 years. Legend has it that long ago, a monster used to scare the village people. However, the monster was afraid of three things: the color red, loud noises, and light/fire. Therefore, the village people dressed in red, made loud noises with their drums, and built fires and lit fireworks to scare the monster away! We loved making our lion masks and participating in the school parade.

Today for Aina, we wrote about different observations in our garden. We drew pictures of the flowers and vegetables we grew. We also enjoyed relaxing with our friends :)
Today we had our first school performance! In front of our families, we performed two songs: I Want to be an Elf and Snowman Where'd You Go? We did such an awesome job! After months of practicing and hours of hard work, we were able to perform in front of our loved ones :)
Today we learned about the three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. Using dye, we learned the different combinations of primary colors that makes the three secondary colors: purple, green, and purple. We had so much fun experimenting how to create different colors using the primary colors. We challenged each other to make dark orange, teal, and even magenta.
For art with Ms. B, we learned about different emotions we may feel such as happiness, sadness, and excitement. Using mirrors, we saw how our facial features change depending on our emotions. For example, if we are excited, our eyebrows go up and our eyes get bigger. We then drew different self-portraits of our different emotions.
After two weeks of waiting, Stripey and Silky finally turned into a butterfly! Once they dried out their wings, we walked them into the garden and they happily flew away to their new home! We miss them and wish we could keep them in class, but we know they are enjoying flying around the school.
Today we learned about different types of lines! We learned that there are curvy lines, straight lines, zig-zag lines, and spiral lines. We made our own, authentic 3D structure using different types of lines.
Boo!! We started our Halloween celebration with a school-wide parade. We were able to see all the different costumes of students from the various classes. We saw doctors, monsters, football players, and much more! We ended our celebration by visiting the "Haunted Office." It was so fun!
